Flavorful Foundations™ — The Six Frameworks
Know the Product — The Six Frameworks
Six Frameworks.
One Cohesive System.
Everything you need to know about Flavorful Foundations™' six proprietary instructional frameworks — what they are, how they work, why they matter, and how to talk about them in any sales conversation.
The Big Picture
Not Worksheets. A System.
Every framework in Flavorful Foundations™ is trademarked, research-backed, and integrated. Students experience all six from kindergarten through 12th grade — in both reading and writing — building a shared instructional language across every grade level and every classroom. Teachers don't re-teach new approaches every year. Students don't re-learn new frameworks. Everyone deepens the same strategic thinking over time.

Reading Framework
SAVOR the Text™
Systematic reading instruction from foundational phonics through advanced comprehension.

SAVOR the Text™ is the primary reading framework of Flavorful Foundations™ — and the foundation everything else is built on. It delivers explicit, systematic, Science of Reading-aligned reading instruction from kindergarten through 12th grade, taking students from foundational phonics and decoding in the early grades all the way through complex text analysis and critical thinking in high school.

In K-2, SAVOR builds the code — phonemic awareness, phonics, letter-sound correspondence, and decoding. Students learn how to read. In grades 3-12, SAVOR shifts to teach students how to deeply understand, analyze, and respond to what they read. The framework grows with the learner — always consistent, always deepening.

SAVOR is also available as a standalone reading system for districts or schools that want the reading framework without the full FF curriculum.

Also available as a standalone system
Grade Range
K-12 — fully scaffolded progression
What It Covers
  • Phonemic awareness and phonics (K-2)
  • Decoding and word recognition
  • Fluency development
  • Explicit comprehension strategy instruction
  • Structured text analysis (3-12)
  • Critical thinking and evidence-based response
Sales Angle
Most SOR programs stop at phonics. SAVOR takes students all the way from foundational decoding through advanced comprehension — one consistent framework, K-12.
2
Writing Framework
SPICE & Sprinkles™
Structured writing across every subject that deepens reading comprehension through composition.

SPICE & Sprinkles™ is the K-12 writing framework — and one of the biggest differentiators in a sales conversation. Most literacy programs focus on reading and treat writing as an afterthought, or sell writing as a completely separate product. SPICE & Sprinkles is fully integrated with the reading curriculum — using writing to deepen comprehension, not just to assess it.

The framework builds confident writers across every core subject — science, social studies, math, health, and more. Spiral grammar is embedded throughout, meaning grammar isn't taught in isolation. It's woven into writing instruction at every grade level, revisited and deepened year over year.

SPICE & Sprinkles is also available as a standalone writing system for schools or districts that want the writing framework without the full FF curriculum.

Also available as a standalone system
Grade Range
K-12 — spiral progression
What It Covers
  • Structured writing across all core subjects
  • Spiral grammar embedded — not isolated
  • Writing to deepen reading comprehension
  • Narrative, informational, and argumentative writing
  • Cross-curricular application K-12
Sales Angle
Districts often buy a separate writing program. SPICE & Sprinkles is already included — and it connects directly to the reading curriculum. That's one less vendor and one more integrated system.
3
Comprehension Framework
Scoop, Stir & Sizzle™
Three-level comprehension questioning that moves students from literal to analytical thinking.

Scoop, Stir & Sizzle™ is the comprehension questioning framework — a structured three-level approach that guides students from surface-level understanding to deep analytical thinking. Every text, every lesson, every grade level uses the same three-tier structure, so students build metacognitive awareness of their own comprehension process over time.

Scoop — literal questions. What did the text say? Stir — inferential questions. What did the text mean? Sizzle — analytical questions. What does the text make you think, question, or connect?

This framework works alongside SAVOR the Text™ and directly connects to Socratic Seasonings™ — students use Scoop, Stir & Sizzle questions as the basis for evidence-based discussion.

Grade Range
K-12 — complexity scales with grade level
The Three Levels
  • Scoop — Literal comprehension
  • Stir — Inferential thinking
  • Sizzle — Analytical and critical response
Sales Angle
This is what takes students beyond recall into real critical thinking — and it connects directly to Socratic Seasonings™ for discussion. It's not a standalone activity. It's part of a system.
4
Vocabulary Framework
Word Work Pantry™
Grade-appropriate academic vocabulary instruction with spiral reinforcement across every grade level.

Word Work Pantry™ is the academic vocabulary framework — built on the research principle that vocabulary is one of the strongest predictors of reading comprehension. It delivers grade-appropriate vocabulary instruction that is directly tied to the texts and units students are working with, not generic word lists taught in isolation.

The spiral design means vocabulary isn't taught once and forgotten. Words are introduced, practiced, revisited, and deepened across grade levels — so students build a rich academic vocabulary over time rather than cramming words for a Friday quiz.

For large urban districts especially, this is a significant differentiator — research consistently shows that vocabulary gaps are one of the primary drivers of the literacy achievement gap, particularly for English learners and students from under-resourced communities.

Grade Range
K-12 — spiral vocabulary progression
What It Covers
  • Academic vocabulary tied to unit texts
  • Parts of speech instruction embedded
  • Spiral reinforcement — words revisited across grades
  • Context-based vocabulary development
  • High-leverage Tier 2 and Tier 3 words
Sales Angle
Vocabulary gaps drive the achievement gap. Word Work Pantry addresses this systematically — not as a separate program, but embedded in every unit from K-12.
5
Discussion Framework
Socratic Seasonings™
Structured Socratic discussion protocols that build evidence-based academic discourse K-12.

Socratic Seasonings™ is the academic discussion framework — bringing the Socratic method into K-12 literacy instruction in a structured, scaffolded way. Students learn from the earliest grades how to participate in evidence-based academic discourse — supporting their ideas with text evidence, building on the ideas of others, and engaging in genuine intellectual dialogue.

This framework directly feeds off Scoop, Stir & Sizzle™ — students use the analytical questions as the basis for Socratic discussion. It also connects to SPICE & Sprinkles™ — written arguments are structured around the same evidence-based thinking students practice in discussion.

For administrators and district leaders, this is a significant talking point — Socratic discussion is rarely structured or systematic in most literacy programs. Here it is a proprietary framework embedded at every grade level.

Grade Range
K-12 — scaffolded by developmental level
What It Covers
  • Structured evidence-based discussion protocols
  • Text-based argument and response
  • Academic language development
  • Building on others' ideas respectfully
  • Critical thinking through dialogue
Sales Angle
Most programs don't have a discussion framework at all. This one is proprietary, structured, and embedded K-12 — and it directly connects writing and comprehension. That's a real differentiator.
6
Skill Reinforcement Framework
Flavor Gaps™
Targeted cloze exercises that strengthen comprehension, context skills, and vocabulary retention.

Flavor Gaps™ is the targeted skill reinforcement framework — using strategic cloze (fill-in-the-blank) exercises to strengthen comprehension, context skills, and vocabulary retention. Cloze exercises are one of the most research-supported tools in literacy instruction, and Flavor Gaps makes them instructionally purposeful rather than rote practice.

Students use context clues, vocabulary knowledge, and comprehension skills simultaneously to complete passages — reinforcing multiple skills at once. The exercises are tied directly to the unit texts and vocabulary, so students aren't practicing in isolation. They're applying what they're learning in a targeted, low-stakes format.

For RTI/MTSS, Flavor Gaps is particularly valuable at Tier 2 — the exercises give intervention teachers a ready-to-use, targeted reinforcement tool that doesn't require separate planning or materials.

Grade Range
K-12 — complexity scales with grade level
What It Covers
  • Strategic cloze exercises tied to unit texts
  • Context clue application
  • Vocabulary retention reinforcement
  • Comprehension skill practice
  • RTI/MTSS Tier 2 ready — no extra planning
Sales Angle
For districts with strong RTI/MTSS programs, this is a ready-made Tier 2 tool. It's not a separate intervention product — it's built into every unit.
The Connection
How the Six Frameworks Work Together.
The real power of the six frameworks is not any single one — it's how they connect. Here's how to explain the system in a conversation.
SAVOR builds the reader. SPICE & Sprinkles builds the writer.
Reading and writing instruction are fully integrated — not separate programs. Students read with SAVOR and respond in writing with SPICE & Sprinkles, deepening comprehension through composition.
Scoop, Stir & Sizzle feeds Socratic Seasonings™.
Students use the three-level comprehension questions as the basis for Socratic discussion — moving from understanding a text to talking about it with evidence.
Word Work Pantry builds the vocabulary students need for everything else.
Academic vocabulary is the foundation of comprehension, discussion, and writing. Word Work Pantry ensures students have the language they need to succeed across all six frameworks.
Flavor Gaps reinforces it all.
Cloze exercises tie vocabulary, comprehension, and context skills together in one targeted practice — reinforcing what students learned across every other framework without separate materials.
Sales Tips
How to Talk About the Frameworks.
When someone asks "what frameworks do you use?" Don't just list them. Lead with the integration story: "We have six proprietary frameworks — in both reading and writing — that students use from kindergarten through 12th grade. The same frameworks, deepening every year. No re-learning new approaches. No new vocabulary every year. One system, K-12."
When someone asks about Science of Reading alignment Point to SAVOR the Text™ as the primary SOR framework — explicit, systematic, phonics through comprehension. Then note that SPICE & Sprinkles brings SOR principles into writing as well. Most programs only do one. FF does both.
When someone asks about writing Most districts are surprised that writing is included and integrated — not a separate purchase. Lead with: "Writing is fully built in — SPICE & Sprinkles is a complete K-12 writing framework embedded in the curriculum. You don't need a separate writing program."
When someone asks about RTI/MTSS Connect Flavor Gaps to Tier 2 and the tri-level texts to all three tiers. "The differentiated texts support Tier 1. The cloze exercises give you a ready Tier 2 tool. And our hybrid model supports Tier 3 intensive intervention. All built in — no separate programs."
